BRIEF BIODATA – DR. BADRA COLONYSUBBARAYA SASTRY SRINATH

(DR. B.S. SRINATH)

Born in 1950 in India, obtained medical graduation in 1971.Trained in General Surgery in Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research of excellence in the year 1976.Worked in a Christian Mission Hospital for 2 years before leaving for UK.

Obtained fellowship in Surgery from The Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and Glasgow.Was a beneficiary of a Research award by the British Government in the field of cancer – immunity – nutrition.

On returning to India, worked in Tata Memorial Hospital, Bombay; Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore; before joining the Bangalore Institute of Oncology as its Managing Director in 1992 and held the positions concurrently of Senior Consultant Surgeon and Managing Director until 2005.

Now involved in establishing and running a 500-bedded comprehensive charitable cancer hospital and research centre - Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Bangalore.Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre is dedicated to serve the poor cancer patients and will be an important lifeline for the patients.

Presently, working as a Consultant Surgical Oncologist and Head of the Institution (Managing Trustee) at Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Bangalore.

Interests have been breast and GI tract surgery.

Prevention of cancer, mass education against tobacco / alcohol addiction.

I have always been concerned about providing cancer treatment to financially challenged population in India.In this direction, I have made many efforts to understand the problems facing the Indian Society, and I have reasonable experience through which efforts are being made to start this new venture.
