Department of Cardiology was started by Dr. Manjunath B V on 8th Febraury 2002 at A.J Hospital and Research Centre, Mangaluru, and continues to head the department and established the teaching courses like D.N.B.(Cardio) and PGDCC programme in 2004 - 2006 and DM Cradiology Program since 2014 which is currently running. Apart from Non-invasive cardiac investigations, is having wide experience in the cath lab procedure till now.

• Many “Firsts” done at Mangalore / Coastal Karnataka from 2002 onwards:
  • Ist Rescue Coronary Angioplasty in Cardiogenic shock situation.
  • Ist angioplasty using drug eluting stent “CYPHER” June 2002.
  • Ist Rescue Coronary Angioplasty in Cardiogenic shock situation.
  • Ist venous bypass graft angioplasty using protection device
  • Ist carotid angioplasty using protection device
  • Ist case in the world – youngest baby (1 year 3 months) to undergo carotid angioplasty using covered stent for a leaking internal carotid artery with pseudo aneurysm.
  • Ist to implant DDDR pacemaker
  • Ist to use IVC filter in Recurrent pulmonary embolism situation.
  • Ist to use Shockwave IVL technology in the state Karnataka for a calcufied lesion undergoing coronary angioplasty.
