Dr Shanmuga Sundaram is currently working as a Chief consultant, Heart failure and Echocardiography in GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore.
He completed his Super speciality training in Cardiology at Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology. He was working as an Assistant professor in the Department of Cardiology, Christian Medical College, Vellore. Subsequently he was working as an Associate Professor and then as a Professor in the Department of Cardiology, at PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research.

He has published more than 10 articles in various National and International journals. He has been an Examiner for DM cardiology Courses under Various Universities.

He underwent training for Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation at Papworth Hospital UK. Currently he is running the Heart failure Clinic in GKNM Hospital Coimbatore. Cardiac catheterization, endomyocardial biopsy, Ambulatory inotropic therapy and Cardiac rehabilitation are some of the services being offered in Heart failure clinic. Multidisciplinary team management involving Heart Failure Cardiologist, Electrophysiologist and Cardiac surgeons ensures optimal management of patients with advanced heart failure including device therapy (ICD and CRT), Left ventricular Assist devices and Heart transplantation.

He is also running Echocardiography services at GKNM Hospital. Advanced Echocardiography, Stress Echocardiography, Contrast Echocardiography, 3D echocardiography and Trans Esophageal Echocardiography are some of the services being offered in the division of Echocardiography apart from routine Transthoracic Echocardiography.
